Soft Tissue Grafts

Your gums may be receding for a variety of reasons, including overly aggressive tooth brushing or periodontal disease. With gum recession you may experience sensitivity to cold, hot or find brushing and flossing painful. If left untreated, gum recession can progress to further gum disease, bone loss and tooth loss. Soft tissue grafts can be used to help restore missing tissue, cover roots and hopefully prevent further recession, bone loss and discomfort.

WHAT CAN I EXPECT FROM SOFT TISSUE GRAFT TREATMENT?

Recent surgical innovations have made gum graft treatment safer and more effective than ever before. With a local or other anesthetic the procedure is relatively pain free. Tissue from the roof of your mouth or another FDA approved source is used to cover the exposed root. Healing times are relatively short. You will need to take extra care of the surgical area for several days until the grafted gum tissue has begun to heal. After recovery is complete, you will have a healthier looking smile and gain the freedom to speak and eat more comfortably.
